MVUAS Steering Committee: Call for Members

You are invited to submit your application to become a member of the Metro Vancouver Urban Aboriginal Strategy (UAS) Steering Committee.  We are currently looking to fill the following 6 vacant positions:

  • Job Skills Advocate;
  • Life Skills Advocate;
  • Elder;
  • Member at Large
  • Youth (2)

The Steering Committee is looking for volunteers that are motivated to look at addressing needs in the Urban Aboriginal Community in Metro Vancouver. Which could include discussing policy changes with all three levels of government to working with service organizations to help find ways to improve service offerings. The Steering Committee also works with associations and places of education to raise awareness of Urban Aboriginal issues. In addition, the Steering Committee makes recommendations to all levels of government and others in the community about which projects and initiatives should be supported. If you are interested or have an expertise in the issues effecting Urban Aboriginal people, we encourage you to submit your application to join the Committee.
 
The attached application will tell you:
 
1) what the UAS is,
 
2) what the Metro Vancouver Urban Aboriginal Strategy Steering Committee is and what you are expected to do as a MVUAS Steering Committee member,
 
3) how to apply to be a committee member including the application form,
 
4) and the criteria for selection to become a steering committee member
 
Your application must be sent by fax or email to Michael Ferguson, Metro Vancouver UAS Coordinator, by 4pm on January 21, 2010. 
 

The successful new Steering Committee members will be contacted before the end of February 2010.

All other applicants are thanked for their interest in becoming a Steering Committee member and their names may be held in a qualifying pool for membership consideration in the event of a vacancy on the committee until March 2012 .
