In 1997, the Urban Aboriginal Strategy (UAS) was developed to support the growing Aboriginal populations living in Canada’s urban centers. The main goal of the UAS is to help create partnerships and increase collaboration to improve socio-economic conditions of urban Aboriginal Peoples.

In 2007, the Federal Government announced a five-year renewal of the Urban Aboriginal Strategy. A $68.5 million commitment over five years will support a range of projects and initiatives to serve urban Aboriginal populations to 2012...click HERE to learn more

Local Governance, Local Impact
The Metro Vancouver area is one of twelve regions that benefits from the contributions provided by the UAS. The Metro Vancouver Urban Aboriginal Strategy (MVUAS) is led by a Steering Committee that focuses on improving the socio-economic condition of Metro Vancouver's Aboriginal community by partnering with community organizations, the non-profit sector, the private sector, and various levels of government.
